Deep Tissue Massage and Sports Massage

Keeping you doing the things you love to do!

Over the years I have worked with many people from members of the general public to sports people and athletes, working with them to help with all sorts of problems from injuries to long term persistent pain or simply helping them to move better and preparing for new activities/sports or a demanding job.

Working with people from builders, office workers, runners, Channel swimmers, decathletes and all those in between. You do not need to play sport to benefit.

"Excellent sports therapy sessions. Passionate and enthusiastic about his work, Michael will work with you to fix any problem you may have using his advanced fountain of knowledge." Terry Couzens

What is Sports Massage/Deep Tissue Massage?

Deep Tissue/Sports Massage relieves tension in the muscle and the connective tissues. It works on the second and deeper layers of muscles and is a deeper, more focussed treatment.

When there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) in muscles, tendons and ligaments that cause pain.

Deep tissue massage helps to relieve pain and restore normal movement. To do this, the massage therapist often uses direct deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles. To help achieve this, I will often use a variety of many direct deep pressure techniques to help remind the brain and nervous system that there is some kind of dysfunction within the area to encourage the body’s natural healing ability.

Deep tissue techniques are focused on areas with problems whilst firm holistic massage is used in other areas of the body. Deep tissue/sports techniques are not used on the entire body in one session as this is not necessary and can be uncomfortable. this is counter-productive as healing requires relaxation.

What are the benefits?

Deep Tissue Massage/Sports Massage Therapy can be used to help treat a wide variety of issues from back pain to headaches. Tension in muscles can often cause pain.

Conditions such as sciatica, repetitive strain injuries, carpal tunnel, chronically tight shoulders, stiff necks, headaches, lower back pain and many more may be eased with a Deep Soft Tissue massage treatment.

Who will benefit from this treatment?

  • Athletes, runners, people who use the gym
  • Clients with muscle and soft tissue strains and sprains
  • Clients with fatigue in certain areas – office workers, lorry drivers, builders, etc.
  • Clients recovering from surgery and injury
  • Or just want to feel and move better

"I am a serious runner and with the miles I log weekly I put a lot of stress on my body. Michael has always managed to help de-stress my sore and tight muscles in order to relieve accumulated tension and to prevent injury. His technique is unique to every patient he treats addressing the entire body and analysing and applying his mind to figure out the root of the problem in order to treat pain, posture or discomfort. He has also given me valuable tips to keep working on the areas he has treated which are a wonderful bonus to his sessions. Thank you so much Michael, you are so valuable and professional."
