What is Reflexology?
There is evidence in the ancient world of reflexology being practiced in one form or the other dating back to Egypt in 2500 BC.
Using reflex points on both feet or the hands that map the whole body, I use my thumb and fingers to apply gentle but firm pressure to the corresponding areas. This may help the body to heal itself by removing toxins and congestions and encourage the body’s own innate healing ability.
It is a safe and gentle therapy that can be used by everyone, including babies, children, the elderly and pregnant women. Reflexology is a complementary therapy recognised by many doctors, consultants and other NHS healthcare professionals.
Reflexology is well known for the feeling of deep relaxation, following a treatment and it may be used for this alone, you do not need to be unwell to have a session.
What are the benefits?
Reflexology encourages the body to work naturally to restore its own healthy balance and is a popular alternative therapy that is considered to have a range of uses. Some of the most common uses of reflexology include:
As a reflexologist I do not diagnose, prescribe medication or treat specific medical conditions. I treat the whole body. Reflexology is complementary to medical care and should therefore be used in tandem with it, not as a replacement.
What happens in a session?
Treatments last approximately 60 minutes but for your first session please allow a bit longer.
There will be an initial consultation so I can tailor the session to your needs, then I will begin with a relaxing massage to prepare the feet for the reflex session.
By using my thumb and fingers I apply pressure to the reflex points on the feet that map corresponding parts of the body. Reflexology should not be an unpleasant or painful experience, however there may be areas of slight discomfort but this is fleeting and can be a sign of congestion or imbalance in that area of the body.
How many sessions will I need?
Some people feel a change and sense of relaxation and well-being after just one or two sessions, but we all respond differently and certain conditions may take longer and I would recommend a course of treatments. Discount packages are available.
